Our Criteria For Selecting The Best Acai Berry Products

The acai berry grows only in the Amazon rainforestIn order for us to recommend a product, it must meet our very strict criteria. We spend a lot of time and energy learning about the products we recommend. This often involves asking tough questions of the owners of the companies that manufactures the products. We spend this time so you don't have to.

In the case of acai berry products, there are a lot of products out there but very few that we would use ourselves or be comfortable recommending to you.

Here is a sampling of what we look for in an acai berry product:

1) The acai berry needs to be processed in a way that protects the nutritional value of the fruit. To us this means that within 24 hours of the berry being picked from the acai palm tree, the acai must be freeze dried or flash frozen. Acai berry is very perishable and if is mishandled, it loses its nutritional potency and becomes nutritionally worthless.

2) We don't recommend products that are "spray dried". Spray dried products are cheap to buy but they are drastically inferior, in our view. The spray dried process requires heating the Acai to very high temperatures which kills off many of the nutrients in the acai fruit. This process also involves using a carrier agents such as maltodextrin to dry the Acai. In the end, a substantial amount of the spray dried acai powder is actually maltodextrin. So we aviod spray dried acai products.

3) We don't recommend products that use extract. You do not want just an extract. You want the whole fruit. The nutritional benefit is in the whole fruit.

4) We only recommend products that use the acai berry skin and pulp. We avoid products that use the seed. There are a number of companies that are selling products that contain the acai seed.

5) We must know the source. We only recommend a product if we know which company is the source of the acai berry that is contained in the product.

6) We only recommend a product if the amount of acai contained in the product is disclosed. Many companies have the name "acai" plastered all over the label but…they don't disclose how much of it is actually in the product. Some of these products are very popular and successful. But we would not recommend them.

The bottom line is…
we only recommend the "highest quality" acai berry products!
